Synapse Intelligence (“Company”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) operates a mobile application that enables users to track personal and group expenses, manage budgets, and record settlements (“App”).

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, process, store, disclose, and protect personal data of users in India.

By registering for or using the App, you consent to the collection and processing of your personal data as described below.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of the Synapse Intelligence mobile application. It does not apply to third-party services that may be integrated into or linked from the App.

2. Personal Data We Collect

We collect only personal data necessary to provide and improve the App’s services.

2.1 Data You Provide

  • Full name
  • Phone number (mandatory for account creation and OTP authentication)
  • Profile photograph (optional)
  • Group information (group names, member identifiers)
  • Expense entries, settlement records, budget settings, notes, and related financial metadata

2.2 Automatically Collected Data

  • Device type and operating system version
  • App usage data
  • Log files and diagnostic data
  • Crash analytics
We do not collect
  • Bank account details
  • Credit/debit card information
  • Aadhaar, PAN, or government identification numbers
  • Biometric data

3. Purpose of Processing

We process personal data for the following purposes:

  • Account creation and authentication via OTP
  • Enabling group expense tracking and settlement calculations
  • Maintaining records of expenses, budgets, and reports
  • Generating insights and summaries
  • Ensuring security and fraud prevention
  • Improving functionality and performance of the App
  • Complying with legal obligations

4. Legal Basis for Processing

In accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023:

  • Personal data is processed based on your explicit consent.
  • Consent is obtained at the time of registration and use of the App.
  • You may withdraw consent at any time by requesting account deletion.
  • Where required by law, we may process data for compliance with statutory obligations.

5. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We may share personal data only in the following circumstances:

5.1 Service Providers

We engage trusted third-party vendors to provide:

  • OTP verification services
  • Cloud hosting and storage infrastructure
  • Analytics and crash reporting services

These entities process personal data strictly on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations.

5.2 Legal & Regulatory Requirements

We may disclose personal data if required to do so by:

  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Courts of competent jurisdiction
  • Government authorities

6. Data Storage & Security

We implement reasonable security safeguards including:

  • Encrypted transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
  • Secure cloud storage
  • Access controls and authentication mechanisms
  • Limited personnel access

While we adopt industry-standard security measures, no system is completely immune from risk.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data:

  • For as long as your account remains active; or
  • As necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy; or
  • As required by applicable law.

Upon account deletion, personal data will be deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

Certain transaction records within groups may be anonymized rather than deleted to preserve the financial consistency of shared records.

8. User Rights (India)

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request erasure of your personal data
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Nominate another individual to exercise rights in case of death or incapacity

9. Account Deletion

Users may request account deletion by:

  • Using the in-app deletion feature (if available); or
  • Contacting support at the email provided below.

Deletion will result in removal of your profile data and access credentials. Historical group expense data may be anonymized to prevent disruption to other users.

10. Children’s Data

The App is not intended for individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.

11. Cross-Border Data Transfers

If personal data is stored or processed outside India, such processing will be conducted in accordance with applicable Indian laws and appropriate safeguards.

12. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be notified within the App. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
